Ella and I have been best friends since grade one. We can spend hours talking about everything and nothing. We know each other’s greatest fears, things that irrationally annoy us, and ideal career if money and skill weren’t an issue. If there was only one Hartford Bakery brownie left in the whole world and it was somehow in my possession, Ella is the only person I’d consider sharing it with.

Life is pretty good for sixteen-year-old Abby. Okay, her grandma doesn’t remember things anymore, her relationship with her mum is increasingly strained and she accidentally kissed her cousin’s cousin on the weekend, so things aren’t exactly perfect. But everything is manageable with her best friend, Ella, by her side.

And with Ella’s brother, Will, interesting and attentive, on the sidelines.

When new girl Chloe arrives, Abby is pleased to be the one to show her around, to welcome her to the group. But Abby doesn’t imagine Chloe fitting in so well or quite so quickly. And before long Abby is feeling just a little left out, a little unsure of Ella’s friendship. In a moment of anger and confusion she wishes something bad would happen.

When it does—with tragic consequences—everything shifts again. And Abby has to face her own feelings and work out what friendship really means.

Megan Williams’ brilliant debut Let’s Never Speak of This Again is a tender, moving story laced with humour, about friendship, about the things that test it, and about what matters most.

Book by Llewellyn-Jones, Derek Much has been written about women, their bodies, and their feelings. But what about men? This detailed book offers men a sympathetic account of their bodies, their needs, and their problems. Many of the misconceived ideas about male emotions and male sexuality are based on ignorance and lack of communication. Derek Llewellyn-Jones, with the human approach which made “Everywoman” so popular, succeeds in putting this right. For this third edition the author has fully updated the text to take into account new research. This edition has been substantially revised to incorporate new research into sexual behaviour, male contraception, HIV transmission and treatment, homosexuality, the “male menopause”, prostate cancer, high blood pressure and heart disease, exercise and nutrition. This book is intended for men aged 15-90, their girlfriends, wives, and partners. It should also be of interest to healthcare workers, social workers and psychotherapists

Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the covert combat ship Oregon have barely escaped a mission on the Congo River when they intercept a mayday from a defenceless boat under fire off the African coast. Cabrillo takes action, saving the beautiful Sloane Macintyre – who’s looking for a long-submerged ship that may hold a fortune in diamonds. But what surprises Cabrillo is her story about a crazy fisherman who claims to have been attacked on the open sea by giant metal snakes in the same area. What begins as a snake hunt leads Cabrillo onto the trail of a far more lethal quarry – a deranged militant and his followers who plan to unleash the devastating power of nature itself against all who oppose them. In his latest bestseller, Clive Cussler, the Grandmaster of Adventure, shows once again that when it comes to page-turning action, he’s the man to beat.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the film version of The Nanny Diaries is a cute chick flick, but it lacks the witty tone of the novel, which took time to flesh out the characters. The tone is set early on when the narrator notes, “In Africa they have the saying: ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ But for the tribe of the Upper Eastside of Manhattan, it takes just one person: the nanny.” Recent college graduate Annie Braddock (a brunette Scarlett Johansson) becomes the nanny for Mr. and Mrs. X, a narcissistic and selfish couple who have no clue that what their precocious son Grayer really needs is a mom and a dad who will pay attention to him. At first, Annie can’t believe her good fortune. Caring for Grayer a few hours each day in the X’s luxurious apartment seems like a dream job. But as her job turns into a 24/7 nightmare, she loses her identity and becomes Nanny. Annie’s attempts to befriend her oddly charismatic boss are met with rebuffs by Mrs. X (Laura Linney). When Annie mentions her home life, Mrs. X is stunned. “Nanny, you never mentioned you had a mother,” she says, as if she expected that nannies were shot out of giant pods. Despite the film’s flaws, Linney is a standout. Like Meryl Streep, who made an unlikeable character sympathetic in The Devils Wears Prada, Linney brings humor to her role. Unfortunately, Paul Giamatti (as the philandering Mr. X) and singer Alicia Keys (as Annie’s best friend Lynette) are wasted in their thankless roles. While we are meant to feel sorry for Annie, we are left wondering why a beautiful and educated young American woman would allow herself to be manipulated into working ridiculous hours for less than minimum-wage pay. When Annie finally does stand up to her employers, it’s a little too late. For everyone.

At a time of retrieval of our religious traditions, Merton’s voice is both intelligent and spiritually compelling.Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk, is perhaps the foremost spiritual thinker of the twentiethcentury. Unmerited Favor by Joseph Prince is a Christian inspirational book centered on the theme of God’s grace and “unmerited favor.” The book teaches that success, healing, peace, and victory in life come not through human effort or striving, but through trusting in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. Prince explains that believers are already accepted, loved, and blessed by God because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Through biblical teachings, personal stories, and practical examples, he encourages readers to stop relying on self-effort and instead depend on God’s grace for every area of life—relationships, career, health, and spiritual growth. Key themes include: living under God’s grace rather than guilt or legalism; understanding righteousness through Christ; experiencing peace and confidence through faith; receiving God’s blessings without striving; becoming “greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved”. The book combines theology with motivational encouragement and emphasizes the New Covenant teachings of Christianity.
