Every pre-owned book at Thrift Reads is assigned a grade and a condition note. The grade gives you a quick overall guide, while the condition note records the wear or damage specific to the physical copy you are choosing.
Our book grades
As New
Appears new, with no noticeable defects, damage or markings.
Fine
Nearly perfect. It may have been read, but has only very minor signs of wear and no obvious defects.
Very Good
Well preserved with some light signs of use, such as minor scuffs or marks.
Good
A clearly read copy with general wear. The cover, spine or pages may have minor damage, but the book remains complete and comfortably readable.
Fair
Noticeably worn and may have tears, creases or markings. All text remains legible and the book is still suitable for reading.
Poor
Heavily worn with major defects, which may include substantial tears, markings or missing material. It remains readable, but only just.
Ex-Library
A former library copy with typical library wear and markings. It may include stamps, labels, stickers or a protective cover.
Binding Copy
A severely worn copy with a damaged or loose binding. It may have a missing cover or pages and is best suited to reading, repair or rebinding.
Choose the individual copy
Where more than one copy is available, select the grade and copy on the product page. Read its condition note before adding it to your cart; that note describes the physical copy you will receive.
If something is not as described
Because our books are second-hand, sales are generally final. If your book arrives in a condition that is significantly different from its description, please contact us so we can help.
