About this book

Description

Home / John Flynn: Apostle to the Inland by W. Scott McPheat “A definitive biography of Flynn has long been looked for. Here is the true story of the life and work of the man who transformed the face of inland Australia and who was the genius behind flying doctors and the famous pedal radios. Flynn’s natural greatness has been clouded by certain myths which have grown around his name; and Scott McPheat’s documented story is the first genuine appraisal of this extraordinary man. Old misconceptions about ‘Flynn of the Inland’ being a ‘camel man’ are put into right perspective, and he emerges as the typical dreamer statesman who lobbied in Government corridors and who worked all night through meticulously preparing maps of his plans for the development of the Inland. No man accomplished more for Australia in a lifetime than this ‘Apostle to the Inland’. The Australian Inland Mission was his great brain-child and under its flag Flynn brought to lonely and isolated areas of the continent a chain of frontier services which gave new security to settlers and home-makers.”
