About this book

Description

The Disinherited: A Sailortown Novel by John Campbell is a gritty dockland saga that chronicles a fierce, internal civil war among dockworkers in mid-20th-century Belfast.
The book serves as the long-awaited sequel to Campbell’s popular debut novel, Corner Kingdom. It dives deeply into the brutal realities of the Belfast waterfront, focusing on the high-stakes trade union rivalries, strikes, and factional infighting that divided the local community. It is set in Sailortown, a historically vibrant, working-class maritime district of Belfast. Campbell draws heavily from his own background as a former docker and trade union negotiator to paint an authentic, passionate, and unpretentious portrait of the community.
The story weaves themes of class solidarity, personal betrayal, and survival against a backdrop of industrial hardship and communal tension. It captures a snapshot of a close-knit urban neighborhood and its people right before modern redevelopment and geopolitical shifts changed the area forever.
Fiction: Campbell signed by the author.
