It is now more than100 years since the death of one of the key figures in the colonial history of New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. Sir Goerge Grey was an extraordinary man who exerted huge influence during the nineteenth century. At an early age he was identified by Thomas Carlyle as 'a leader of men', and his family expected him to be nothing less than a hero. Grey's early career began in Australia where he explored, mapped and sketched the outback, defending the Aborigines against the worst excesses of his compatriots. He became the Governor of South Australia pleasing his British masters enough to be sent as a troubleshooter to the infant colony of New Zealand. His second governorship of New Zealand was a disaster, as he stoked the fires of the New Zealand Wars. This comprehensive biography contains significant new material, and it is a timely re-evaluation of a complex and fascinating man, whose influence was decisive at the time and continues to have an effect to the present day.

How much does shipping cost?

New Zealand orders of $40 or more receive free shipping. For smaller orders, Christchurch delivery to postcodes beginning with 8 is $5, metro New Zealand delivery is $9, and rural New Zealand delivery is $14.

If your address is rural, please choose the rural delivery option at checkout.

Do you ship outside New Zealand?

We currently ship to Australia for a flat rate of $37. We do not currently ship to other countries.

Can I collect my order?

Yes. Choose local pickup at checkout and collect from 9 Penbury St, Waltham, Christchurch 8023. Pickup orders are usually ready within 24 hours, and we will email you when your order is ready.

We ship with NZ Post. Standard delivery usually takes 3–5 working days, with rural delivery sometimes taking a little longer. We will email your tracking number after dispatch.
