About this book
Description
Clare McNally's 1992 supernatural thriller, Cries of the Children, follows three young children who have been found completely abandoned, alone, and confused in different parts of America:
• Julie: An 8-year-old girl who wakes up in Colorado and is taken in by Samantha, a local doctor.
• Lorraine: A 5-year-old girl discovered in New York City with a suitcase full of money, cared for by a homeless woman.
• Steven: A 10-year-old boy who finds refuge with a loving, close-knit family in Columbus, Ohio.
While the children remember nothing about their past lives, it quickly becomes apparent to their new guardians that they are incredibly unique. They are blessed with a powerful, dualistic gift—the supernatural ability to both psychically heal and severely harm.
The narrative shifts when all three children begin communicating telepathically with a mysterious entity named Marty. Realising that a ruthless, shadowy organisation and a psychically terrifying "envoy of evil" are hunting them down, the children abruptly flee their safe new homes.
Guided by a mysterious child's voice, they are lured across the country to a highly secure, secret compound where they are held prisoner. Once they physically connect, they discover they must unite their dark powers to free Marty from captivity and defeat the evil force tracking them.
Meanwhile, their devastated foster parents and caretakers refuse to let them go. Distraught by the sudden disappearances, the adults embark on a frantic, cross-country rescue mission. They must navigate a dangerous world-within-a-world to track down the secret compound, racing against time to save the children before the organisation can permanently exploit their deadly, volatile abilities.
