About this book

Description

"The Lady and the Unicorn" by Tracy Chevalier is a historical fiction novel that delves into the imagined creation of the famous medieval "Lady and the Unicorn" tapestries, which are housed today in the Cluny Museum in Paris. The story begins in Paris in 1490. Jean Le Viste, a shrewd and ambitious French nobleman, commissions a set of six lavish tapestries to display his wealth and rising status at court. He hires Nicolas des Innocents, a talented but arrogant and womanizing artist, to design them. Initially, Le Viste expects battle scenes, but his wife, Genevieve, and spirited young daughter, Claude, subtly influence Nicolas's vision, leading him to create a series of tapestries centered around a "Lady" and a "Unicorn," exploring the five senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell), with a mysterious sixth tapestry titled "À mon seul desir" (To my sole desire).
